Holy Spirit in 1 and 2 Thessalonians

We have seen in previous essays how the spread of the prophetic powers into new fields of preaching was integral to the spread of the church. The Spirit’s powers were essential in Jerusalem, Samaria, with Cornelius, and to defend the work of Paul’s first missionary journey. Is it reasonable to think that the same emphasis about the work of the Holy Spirit would be missing from the first epistle written to one of the first apostolically planted churches among the Gentiles in Europe?

What is the Church?

Progressives have successfully shifted our language. We have ceded ground to them they do not own. Their efforts have created enough ambiguity and fluidity around the nature of the church that many no longer believe in the concept of a non-denominational church of Christ.

Am I Saved?

If it is true that every spiritual blessing is “in Christ,” what is there outside of Him? The answer is not encouraging for those who choose to remain outside of Christ.

Casting the First Stone

They state clearly that the woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. I know times have changed, but not that much. Then, just as now, it takes two people to commit adultery. By definition, if they caught the woman in the act of adultery, they also caught the man.

Judgment Finished God’s Mystery

The key to understanding Peter’s words is found in allowing the Bible to define its own “ages.” There are various interpretive systems among Bible students today that describe the stages of the biblical story. The dispensational pre-millennialist has at least seven dispensations or ages in which God has and will work. Another common division of the Bible ages has three main ages: the Patriarchal Age, Mosaic Age, and Christian Age. The problem for both of these approaches is that the Bible never uses any such structure or labels to describe its own ages.

The End of Prophecy and Miracles

The seal of the Holy Spirit would last until the coming “day of the Lord” which would bring a baptism of fire upon those that rejected Jesus and would bring a vindicating “day of redemption” upon the true children of God. About digital bible study

This is a personal ministry of Eric Owens and Jonathan Jenkins. We started our web streaming efforts in about 2002. DBS has been through several phases for the years. When 2020 turned upside down on all of us, Eric and Jonathan thought that an ongoing series lessons focused on connecting God’s people to Him and each other would be encouraging in hard time. For 4 years we ran the nightly CONNECT online gospel meeting featuring over 200 gospel preachers. Most of those lessons are preserved in the video library on our site. We continue our 20 year history of livestreamed Bible studies today.

We invite you to come along with us in our journey to get to know our our God, our community, and the truth.

Thanks for visiting
